It started with a pomegranate. I love pommies and wanted to paint one. I wanted to experience each little seed. I wanted to explore depth and dark places and red, my favourite colour (for the moment, anyway). My favourite part was applying the glossy shine to each seed at the end - fun!
The glossy red seeds reminded me of something - the eyes of a red-eyed fluffy white rabbit.
So then I thought about putting a red-eyed rabbit in it. I love rabbits and had them as pets as a kid (illegal in Queensland, and they were dramatically confiscated (long story, another time). I wanted to get a white rabbit involved. But there wasn't any room left on the pommy. So I decided to go diptych and figure out how to join the two later.

The rabbit was fun! I liked playing with fluffy brushstrokes, and blending in parts with my fingers. fingerpainting rocks!
The eyes make the painting, and they turned out pretty ok.
I liked playing with colours - it's amazing how many pinks and blues can be found in a white rabbit's coat.
About three quarters of the way through the bunny told me his name - it was Whiteknuckles. Pommy Whiteknuckles, to be exact. Fair enough, he had the physique for it! What I intended to be a cute little bunny turned out to be a biffer. Maybe it was the Star Trek-esque classical music I was playing while I painted him. He really painted himself.
Now for the most epic part - connecting the two! On goes a bunny print near the pomegranate. On goes pommy juice, all over his bad ass white bib. I wanted the juice to nearly look like blood. He's a biffer after all.
I think it turned out really well in the end - he's tough but cuddly too. Just the way I like them :)
- Both paintings done in acrylic. Pommy friday night and early Saturday morning. Bunny a few hours Saturday arvo and Sunday evening.
